While that “absence makes the heart grow fonder” jazz is usually true, long distance relationships can really feel, well, distant. You do the best that you can with the communication options you have, but “good morning” texts can get mundane, and busy, mismatched schedules can constantly mess with Facetime dates.
If you immediately obsessed over the long distance touch lamps we wrote about, brace yourself: Another connected long distance gadget is here, and it’s seriously heartwarming. Meet the Lovebox Spinning Heart Messenger: the app-connected box that puts a modern twist on the classic love note.
You’re probably wondering WTF this gadget actually does — like, what is a spinning heart messenger? Lovebox really is a box that looks like your ordinary, adorable piece of home decor. However, it’s equipped with a mirrored screen on the inside, which is where the magic takes place.
Here’s how it goes down:
Step 1: Sender wants to send a thoughtful message and does so through the Lovebox app.
Step 2: The heart on the outside of the box spins, letting the receiver know that they’ve got mail. (The heart keeps spinning until the lid is opened, so leaving messages for people to come home to is definitely a sweet idea.)
Step 3: The apple of your eye sees the heart spinning, opens the lid to view their message, and is showered in hearts plus the text message.
Step 4. Your bae’s heart starts spinning too, because the process is just too dang cute.
Check out the Lovebox’s original Kickstarter video to see it in action:
Lovebox is perfect for long distance couples to leave sweet nothings for their S.O. to come home to. However, there are other types of long distance relationships out there: Lovebox would make a truly heartfelt gift for parents or grandparents who live far away, especially for those that haven’t jumped on the smartphone or texting train yet.
As we saw with the touch lamps, connected long distance relationship gadgets are in high demand. While the Lovebox is currently backordered and won’t ship until the end of February, it’s definitely a gift worth waiting for. Learn more and order one for $99 here.
